DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TRIALS IN NEW YORK

If a plea deal cannot be reached, your case will be sheduled for trial. There are two types of trials in New York. First, there is a bench trial. A single judge will preside over this trial and render a verdict of guilty or not guilty. Second, there is the better-known jury trial. This is where six or twelve people decide if a person is guilty or not.

In order to properly defend yourself during a trial, a proper investigation must be done before the trial begins. Witnesses need to be interviewed, documents must be reviewed, and all of the available evidence must be obtained from the prosecutors. There is also an important decision to make as to if and when the accused will testify in his own defense.
